Dana Bunnett, Co-Executive Director
Dana Bunnett has been director of Kids in Common since January 2001. In this role she provides convening support to the Santa Clara County Children’s Agenda and represents the needs of children and youth in collaboratives throughout the community. In her spare time, Dana acts as an education rights holder for youth engaged in the justice system.

Joy Murrieta, Co-Executive Director

Joy Murrieta is an accomplished executive director with extensive experience in, and dedication to, leadership within the nonprofit sector. She is a relentless agent of change and fierce advocate for equitable, positive youth and leadership development, and she is determined to take her knowledge, experience, and passion to Kids in Common in order to collaborate with community stakeholders to make positive, lasting change for youth and families.

 

Prior to joining Kids in Common, Joy served for 12 years as Co-Founder and Executive Director of "Main IDEA", a nonprofit youth enrichment organization in Worcester, the second largest city in Massachusetts, whose mission is to empower youth through accessible and equitable arts programs with an emphasis on social-emotional learning and positive youth development through data-driven and cross-sector community partnerships. In recognition for her work in the community, Joy received the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network's 2020 Young Professional Excellence Award, the City of Worcester’s 2021 Youth Champion Award, the Worcester Business Journal’s 2022 Nonprofit Leader of the Year Award, and a Key to the City of Worcester in 2022, among other awards and recognition.

 

In addition to receiving her Bachelor’s Degree from Crown College in Minnesota in 2012, Joy graduated from the Institute for Nonprofit Practice (a Tufts University organization) in Massachusetts with a Certificate in Nonprofit Management as well as Clark University in Massachusetts with a Certificate in Nonprofit Youth Work, both in May 2018. She is also a graduate of the 2019 Leadership Worcester Class and the 2021 Philanthropy MA’s Nonprofit Learning Institute. 

 

Joy and her spouse moved from Massachusetts to California in early 2024 to connect with family and experience life on the west coast. Beyond her nonprofit work, she enjoys dancing, longboarding, traveling, baking, gaming, singing and playing guitar, and being an active member of the Latinx and LGBTQIA+ communities!
